Who We Are

We are a team of doctors, nurses, health visitors, receptionists and administration staff working hard to deliver a comprehensive range of excellent primary care medical services to our 12,000+ patients.

History

The Practice dates back almost 150 years, and many respected former Partners are part of local 'folk-lore'.

At the beginning of the last century the Practice moved to premises in the centre of Barnstaple (becoming known thereafter as "Bear Street Surgery") and in 1994 moved to its current purpose-built medical centre on the old Brannam Pottery site. We are proud of our past, and in particular of our nickname of "The Bears" which is why you will find one or two images of bears scattered around the web-site!




We currently serve about 13,000 patients who live within some 10 miles of the Centre. We are committed to providing a family service and encourage you to see your own doctor whenever possible. We also believe that prevention is better than cure so offer a comprehensive prevention and health promotion service.

We operate personal lists with each partner having a personal receptionist. The Practice employs a highly skilled team of Practice Nurses who form part of our Primary Health Care team.
