Advice over the Christmas and New Year Holiday
The following information includes the last date for ordering prescriptions, Surgery opening times for the Christmas and New Year Holiday, Alcohol advice and who to contact for medical advice when the surgery is closed.
Repeat Prescriptions
PLEASE NOTE:
The last day for ordering repeat prescriptions for collection before Christmas is Monday 21st December
Please allow plenty of time for your prescription to be processed over this busy period
Alcohol - Know your limits
The Government’s daily guideline is 2-3 units for women and 3-4 units for men
But what is a unit?
One unit of alcohol is equivalent to 10ml of pure alcohol. As a rough guide:
-
1 pint of strong lager = 3 units
-
1 pint of ordinary lager, bitter or cider, 175ml glass of wine = 2 units
-
1 alcopop = 1.5 units
-
1 measure of spirits = 1 unit
-
many wines are around 11 or 12 per cent alcohol, so a small glass = 1.5 units
Alcohol Facts
-
There are around 10 million people drinking above the Government's recommended limits.
-
Alcohol can be fattening. If you were to add three or four gin and tonics to your usual daily diet, you could put on 4lbs over four weeks.
-
Children learn their behaviour largely from their parents, so how you drink may affect how they drink too, both now and in the future.
