Unless we put in the effort to keep our bodies supple, we can find that even simple movements can feel difficult to do. Patient Communications Survey

Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is developing a new Patient Communications Policy and they are asking for feedback from staff, patients and their wider stakeholders to help them shape it.

Good communication is fundamental to good quality care and patient experience. The NHS also has a legal duty to communicate in an accessible and inclusive way. Their policy will set the Trust-wide standards for excellent communication with patients (and by extension with carers, family, and significant others), no matter what a person’s communication need may be.

The content of the policy will be informed by legislation and professional codes of practice. They also want to understand and respond to the needs and views of patients and staff. They have developed ten principles to guide all patient communications at the Royal Devon and would like your feedback on how to improve our communications.

Let's Talk About STIs

Not all sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have obvious symptoms. Around two thirds of women and half of all men with chlamydia won’t have any obvious signs. Testing for all ages is available within Devon Sexual Health clinics and, if you're aged 16-24, you can also order a free online test via freetest.me

If left untreated, the infection can spread to other parts of your body and lead to long-term health problems, especially in women, so it's best to stay safe and get tested.

Shingles

Shingles is an infection of a nerve and the area of skin around it. It is caused by the herpes varicella-zoster virus, which also causes chickenpox.

Individuals are eligible for routine vaccination against shingles when they become 70 years of age and all those aged up to and including 79 years are now eligible to receive the vaccine until they become 80 years of age.

By having the shingles vaccination you will significantly reduce your chance of developing shingles. And, if you do go on to have shingles the symptoms are likely to be milder and the illness shorter, than if you had not had the vaccination.

Please call reception on 01271 329004 if you would like to book an appointment.
